Antimicrobial String-Wound Sediment Filters
Cleaner water starts at the front door of your home — with added antimicrobial protection on the cartridge itself. Hydrana's antimicrobial string-wound sediment filter helps reduce dirt, sand, rust, and other suspended particles before they reach your faucets, showers, appliances, and water-using fixtures.
This is the antimicrobial version of our string-wound cartridge. It provides the same polypropylene string-wound sediment filtration, with antimicrobial protection designed to help inhibit the growth of bacteria on the filter cartridge between changes. It is a sediment filter — it does not disinfect your water or replace a dedicated bacteria treatment system if you need one.
Made with high-quality, zero-foaming polypropylene yarn in a durable string-wound design, it's a straightforward whole-house replacement cartridge for homeowners who want dependable sediment filtration plus antimicrobial protection on the cartridge.
How to pick the right one — your variant is Length / Diameter / Micron:
- Length — 10" or 20": Measure your old cartridge top to bottom, or check your housing size.
- Diameter — 2.5" or 4.5": 2.5" is the standard slim housing size. 4.5" is the wider Big Blue style housing size.
- Micron — how fine it filters: Lower = finer. 50–100 micron for coarse sediment and heavy well-water grit, 20–30 micron for general whole-house sediment, 5–10 micron for finer dirt and rust, 1 micron for the finest sediment filtration in this line.
Key features:
- Helps capture dirt, sand, rust, and suspended particles
- Antimicrobial protection on the cartridge, plus premium polypropylene string-wound construction
- Zero-foaming polypropylene yarn
- Available in 10" and 20" lengths, 2.5" and 4.5" diameters, and multiple micron ratings
Not sure which micron you had before? Check the printing on your old cartridge — matching the size and micron you already use is the safest place to start.
Made to order: Every Hydrana cartridge is made to order in your chosen size and micron rating, so the combination you need is always available to order — no waiting for a restock.

Antimicrobial whole-house sediment filter replacement for well water
This antimicrobial string-wound whole-house water filter cartridge does the same sediment job as our standard cartridge — it helps reduce dirt, sand, rust and suspended particles — with antimicrobial protection built into the cartridge itself that inhibits growth in and on the cartridge between changes. Important and honest: this is still a sediment filter. It does not disinfect your water, and it is chosen by homeowners who keep a cartridge in a damp housing for months at a time, especially on well water, and want that extra protection on the cartridge while it works.
Sizes, microns and the 5 micron default
Choose 10 inch or 20 inch length, 2.5 inch diameter for standard slim housings or 4.5 inch diameter for Big Blue style housings, in 1, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or 100 micron. 5 micron is the most popular general whole-house rating; heavier well-water grit is better handled stepped — 50–100 micron first for sand, 20–30 micron for general sediment, then 5–10 micron for finer dirt and rust. Use 1 micron only as a final stage, because a very fine cartridge on silty water can clog quickly and reduce pressure. This range covers common replacement searches such as 20 x 4.5 sediment filter 5 micron and 10 x 2.5 antimicrobial sediment filter.
How often to change it
Replace every 3 to 6 months in most homes, sooner if flow drops, pressure falls by roughly 10–20 PSI, or the cartridge is visibly loaded. Antimicrobial protection on the cartridge is not a reason to stretch change intervals — a loaded sediment cartridge should be changed on schedule. Every Hydrana antimicrobial cartridge is manufactured in the USA and made to order in your size and micron. Compare it with the standard cartridge in String-Wound Filters, or use the Size & Cross-Reference Guide if you are replacing another brand's cartridge by size.
